room with a view 1/2

Finally all settled in, I’m sharing my new small space. Located in East Village, my roommate and I are loving our neighborhood – we’re a few blocks down from PDT, Yoga To the People, and Ave A’s thriving restaurant scene. Coming later to will be a guide to my favorite things to do in East Village, but for now it’s all about the new digs. This is the first of two postings, so stay with me.

East Village is one of the most eclectic scenes in Manhattan, and when decorating I kept that in mind. The entire time, ‘Urban Outfitters becomes an adult’ was the theme, and I think I nailed it. What I love most about decorating is incorporating small trinkets or items you treasure into your space. I’ve collected many small [some strange] things over the years. My most treasured items are things I’ve been given, and also happened across.

Top left, my statement bracelets are displayed on an old piece. I love displaying books I’ve read, since most of the time their covers are beautiful [sorry I judge my books by their cover]. Bottom left is another shelf from my book shelf/ladder from The Container Store. I also love showing my jewelry, so I used another old display piece, paired with glass lightbulbs from Hobby Lobby. I then added a personal touch with memories from Governors Ball last year, encased in a frame from Urban Outfitters. I’m all about good scents, so on a run to Trader Joe’s I grabbed some eucalyptus and hung it to dry [I also hung a bit in my shower, so when it gets steamy it smells fresh].

My trusty record player had to make the voyage up with me, although getting all of my records here was a trip [note–they are uber heavy and I recommend putting your back into it]. Another item from Urban Outfitters, this record player has lasted me for years now.

When I got to the city, I knew I had to get some plants to fill up my space so I went down the street and picked up some cacti, succulents, and this amazing hanging plant. It’s been fun to watch them grow as I’ve been in the city for two months now, and also watch one of them die [oops! there weren’t any care instructions…].

Funny thing about most New York apartments, most rooms don’t have overhead lighting. Getting a little creative, I strung up some bulb lights around my window and got a sconce for next to my bed–because my room is all white, the light bounces off quite nicely.

Hats are an obsession of mine, however it’s always been hard thinking of a way to display them. At my last apartment, the idea to hang them with command hooks came to me–you can’t see the tacky hooks, so the hats float perfectly. If you use heavy duty hooks, you can even hang your scarfs and bags on them as well.

As mentioned above, there’s something thrilling about finding unique, even strange treasures. While walking around East Village, Obscura Antiques & Oddities came across my path, the most interesting yet equally freaky place–the perfect spot in my eyes. The place is stocked with old medical supplies, animal heads [even a stuffed snake with two heads], history books from the 1800’s, clowns, miniature hands, everything. My favorite find was a constellation torn out of a 1950’s educational book. It’s beautiful, no pictures can ever do it justice. In my room it’s paired next to another great find, from 410 Vintage Market in Fayetteville, AR. This lullaby was kept in it’s original frame, with it’s original glass too. Above all these, from Target is a super cool [also super cheap] tapestry found a while back.

Part two will be coming shortly! Stay tuned.

Colors [if you dare]

Happy Thursday everyone!

Recently I’ve found myself so attracted to putting color on my eyes for some reason-and that’s with colored eyeliner! Something about having a pop of color is just so fun and exciting, and a good conversation starter too.
My favorite colors to put on my eyelids are turquoise, dark purple, and a shimmery black/purple.
I think these 3 colors are good for all skin tones-however they should all be worn as the center of attention, meaning natural face makeup, eye shadow and a bare lip.

My favorite colored eyeliner has to be Eyeko London’s Skinny Liquid Eyeliner, in purple. The tip of the brush is a fat felt, but then gets very slender at the end, making for a perfect cat eye brush. Speaking of cat eye, every time I wear colored eyeliner I ALWAYS wear a cat eye-I just think it’s the perfect way to show off the color while still having a classic look.

Another one or my favorite colored eyeliners is Wet n Wild’s Mega Liner in turquoise. This is just a great liquid eyeliner for cat eye’s in general-it has a slender brush that’s the same size throughout. It’s easy to apply for those who aren’t super experienced. All you do is follow your natural eyelid line, then keep going a tad bid to create the cat eye look.

As you might already know, New York Fashion Week is wrapping up, with only one more day left!
As promised, I’m going to discuss my favorite looks on and off of the runway! (And yes, these are screen shots from Insta, because that was the fastest accessible way to see these amazing garments.)

First, let’s just talk about J.Crew’s Spring 2014 show-holy mother of beautifulness. Talk about some GORgeous clothes-Jenna Lyons, J.Crew’s creative director really outdid herself this year. J.Crew is known for always being classy, but with a fun edge-and always looking so cool and effortless. This year was no different, I mean look at those colors-a pastel lime green paired with a pink sherbet, so chic. I especially love the look to the right in the second photo-that Aloha t-shirt with that AMAZING sparkly skirt really is a wonder. I CAN NOT wait for this line to be available in stores.

Next, can we just all gasp at the amazingness in this Badgley Mischka dress. BM always has stunning dresses, this just happens to be my absolute favorite. The way that the lace looks 3D and accentuates the models curves really does make for a perfect dress.

Next up, Falguni and Shane Peacock-I had honestly never heard of this designer, but now I know. I’m loving cascading feathers at the moment, and I love how they made this sequin dress have a faded plaid and feathers. Just amazing. I also love how the neckline is so high, yet it’s balanced with an up-to-there slit-perfection.

Following along with more feathers is Mathieu Mirano. I love how the top of this dress is so modern yet so classic with gold and red. I usually like small, skinny feathers but I LOVE how large and beautiful these feathers are. I also love how the feathers create the bottom of the dress along with a very sheer layer of fabric, so flattering.

Always a favorite, Zac Posen has done it again. I am hands down IN LOVE with this gown-it really is so perfect.

And it’s still all about sequins and feathers! I As I said before, I ADORE skinny, cascading feathers, so this is definitely a beauty in my opinion.

The beading on not only this gown, but all the clothing behind it is simply stunning!! It really does make for a flattering palette on any skin tone.

(I’m not sure why this is so tiny…)
But regardless, this Proenza Schouler is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!! I seriously can not get over it. I’m obsessed!

“Oscar does the best greens”-is what @Oscarprgirl said, and it looks to be true. I love this dress, but what I love even more is the fact that Bill Cunningham is sitting front row and looking oh-so-charming as always. (remember my post about him a few months ago?)

Ahhh, Rachel Zoe does it again. To me these are just like the not-so-sweat pant I blogged about a while ago, but a more glamified version. So great.

Not only were the clothes at Lela Rose so pretty, but the hair-THE HAIR. Styled by Ted Gibson, gold flakes with messy low updos looked oh-so-fab. Maybe I can re-create this somehow in a tutorial…

Backstage at Nanette Lepore, this blue/white-cream dress is so chic. I love how the structure is simple yet so flattering!

IN LOVE with this Alice Olivia dress. I love how big and bulky the straps are, but then how pretty and delicate the bottom skirt part is-a great combination for an evening gown.

Not only do I love the bottom of this Tracey Reese, but the shoes are 2.DIE.4!!! Normally I’m not a super strap heel lover, but these are amazing.

So obviously NYFW is about designers debuting their Spring collections, and for some debuting their first ever collection. But to me, fashion week is so much more. It’s a week were fashion icons, editors, It girls and bloggers come together to discuss and meet and talk about what they think is “in fashion”.
Ultimately though, fashion week is about the outfits that are OFF the runways-also known as, Street Style. This year, since I was able to attend fashion week I got to see first hand some AHHHMAZING outfits.
Through Street Style, you can really see what trends will be upcoming and in. Below are a few of my favorite Street Style outfits and trends

Obsessions: The not-so-sweat pant

Wait a minute-who is this and what have they done with Flancake? Sweat pants?? I mean really???
Ok ok, it actually is me. I know right, who would’ve thought in a trillion years that I would EVER be talking about this as a trend, definitely not an obsession of mine!! But it’s true-I’ve fallen for the not-so-sweat pant, as I like to call it!

So before I explain what makes this so great, first let me clear up a few things. I honestly believe that this trend only looks good dressed up-as in, with heels, strappy sandals, or super bling-with a mix of sporty fun. Now, the not-so-sweat pant, contrary to belief, isn’t actually even a sweat pant. Nope-don’t go running to Nike to get these-it’s basically a super tailored pant with an elastic waist(I must say, elastic waist’s are a favorite of mine!).
I think the reason I love this trend oh-so-much is because I LOVE mixing dressed up and dressed down looks-there’s just something so chic about it, so cool. These pants are no doubt the perfect way to give off a chic, cool vibe.
So as I said, I think this trend looks best paired with heels and jewels-to dress it up! BUT-if you must wear tennis shoes with it(which I probably will be for class!) then wear extra pretty jewels-they balance out the sporty-ness! For colors, I think that neutrals are the best choice for this trend. Because they are a pretty new trend, they might be around for a while(maybe a few seasons), but I honestly don’t think they’re here to stay, so don’t go crazy with prints. Plus-neautrals are so easy to wear!
With all that said-let’s see how these fab pants can be styled, where to buy them, and my take on the not-so-sweat pant!

So first lets talk leather-ohemgee, SO fab!! I mean really, leather not-so-sweat pants, what could possibly be better??? I think that this combo works so well because leather is such a staple and such a statement, that the pants just WERK. (notice the strappy shoes in both pictures and how they dress them up even more!)

No really, how cool are these not-so-sweat pants with side stripes? Not only are vertical stripes so flattering(they mike you look super tall!) they add a pop of super cute color! I also love how both gals are wearing pointed heels-they really pull the outfits together and also dress up the pants even more.

Now, for those who just cant resist the classic cotton not-so-sweat pant, these are for you! I love how all of these outfits are wearing easy to wear pants, but they all look so pulled together! Even though the first outfit is with sneaks, the glittery shirt adds a major dress-it-up factor. I love the sweater in the J.Crew Fall 2013 lookbook, how it adds an extra bit of coziness, but the heels still keep the pants dressed. The last outfit is just SO chic-I love the vest paired with the pants, and how her shirt hits right at the waist line-so flattering. Just overall great outfit!

Now, this is how I styled my 2 pair’s of not-so-sweat pants!

First things first-ignore the fact that I have no makeup on(I just started accutane-WOO, so I’m trying to limit makeup, you can follow my progress Tumblr at if you’d like!) And also don’t mind the water droplet on my pants-oops!

For this first outfit, I paired my not-so-sweats with a lace tee to dress them up. Even though they are silk, they still look to me like sweat pants. I paired my low sandals with snakeskin straps because I love how lace and snakeskin look together-it’s almost like the mimic each other in such a fabulous way!!

Shirt-old Urban Outfitters
Pants-Winfred (from Courtney at her out!)
Shoes-Sam Edelman

For this outfit, I chose something a little more casual-I threw my hair up and put a tee on! I kept some wedges on though to keep things dressy, I wore my fancy vintage necklace from my grandma’s closet and I tucked in the front of my shirt-something I basically always do.

Shirt-Target FEED collaboration, from the boys side!
Pants-Joe Fresh at JCP

So I’m sure you’re all wondering-where on earth can I get such cute pants!? Well, here are a few options! (click the picture to be directed to their site for ordering!)

For leather:

For striped down the side:

I know I said no floral-but these are just too cute to pass up, plus I couldn’t find any with just a simple stripe!

For casual:

And some more that I just LOVE-all from Nasty

Well, now that everyone knows how fabulous being chic and cool can be, we can all agree to slip into some fabulous not-so-sweat pants. Until next time!

Borrowed from the boys.

Happy Saturday all!

Well ladies, I’m in a rut.
I’ve become OBSESSED with a new trend, I literally can’t get enough!!!
First, let me tell you something-I’ve never been a fan of its-fedoras, wide brimmed, even baseball hats-I always think they all look weird on me! WEEELLLL I’ve changed my mind-I’m currently literally wanting to buy every single baseball hat ever! (especially leather and acid wash ones from FreePeople….ooops)

So let’s talk about where I first started seeing this trend-about 3 years ago in J.Crew and I thought oh lord I hope this doesn’t become a “thing”….well 3 years later, I saw an adorable yankees hat on the owner of Savoir-Faire, Tess Bleich and I then thought-GEEZ I hope this becomes a trend!!! But seriously, literally so cute.

Let’s talk about why I love this trend so much:

1. They’re SO easy to wear!!!
2. You can seriously wear them with anything (ok, maybe not a ball gown…ok maybe)
3. I always have this problem-BEAUTIFUL locks, but greasy roots! I’m not kidding, my hair always looks the best for some reason on like the 3rd day of not washing it, but HELLO I can’t just walk out of my door looking like a fire could start on my crown??  Eww no, but guess what-baseball hat to the rescue!!

Now, this trend is (right now) for the daring, since it’s wearing it with cute cloths, and not just a tshirt and jeans, so I’m going to give a little explaining.

In my opinion, always try and stick with the same color scheme as your hat, because the crazier the color, the more the hat will stick out and look like it doesn’t belong on your head!
Also, this may seem weird, but I think baseball hats look best with loose clothing, mostly causal clothes but dressy accessories to up the cool factor (think sparkly necklaces, pretty makeup, heels, maybe a huge bag).
And really I don’t have any more tips on how to wear them, just have fun with them!! I just love wearing them because I feel like I’m 12 for some reason!!

And here are some lovely visuals on HowTo: Wear a basball hat like a girl!
First-my interpretation!

My jumpsuit is from Free People, vest from American Eagle, converse and my Yankees hat. You can’t really see, but I’m wearing three vintage necklaces, two are Chain Crochet and the other is from Vintage 401 on college in Fayetteville, AR!

I love her leather hat with the sparkley shirt!ImageImageImageImage

How fun is her pink lipstick? I love the way it makes this tough leather hat feel girly and fun!ImageImageImage

Last but not least, I’m loving these baseball hats in J.Crew’s Looks We Love for August!ImageImage

That’s all for tonight lovely ladies! And dashing dudes, of course! 🙂
Until next time,

ARM PARTY: (ahrm-pahr-tee)

It’s Tuesday! (or at least I think it is…you know how summer can get!)

ARM PARTY: (ahrm-pahr-tee)
noun: to load up one’s wrist with fab bracelets, bangles and adornments for the simple purpose of looking fabulous.

So today I wanted to post about something that I GUESS is a trend, but it’s been around or a while so I’m not exactly posting about how it’s new-I just wanted to talk about arm parties because they’re SO fun!!

So first things first-I wanted to share my arm parties, and the different ways to wear them!

Lately I’m having a party on my arm everyday!
This is what I wear everyday:

for an everyday arm party I always put on my watch which is a must, since I have gold on my watch I always add a few gold bangles/spiked bracelets, a real fancy pink bracelet, my personalized leather bracelets and my cool turquoise bracelet. For me, this is the perfect arm party because I have a mix of fancy bracelets with easy to wear bracelets-which works for everyday because sometimes I dress super nice but sometimes I just want to wear a tshirt! I also like to add bracelets that are personalized because that makes it YOURS!

If you’re wanting an arm party that’s bohemian, do something like this:
add a woven friendship bracelet with some vintage bangles and be colorful!! Also for a bohemian arm party add some leather bracelets(or faux leather!)

If you want a dressed up arm party or have a bigger bracelet that you want to show off-do something like this! For this arm party, add some different bangles in the same color as your statement piece(gold/silver) and add your statement last(closest to your wrist)

Those are my interpretations of arm parties- here are some of my favorite arm parties!

Basically here’s the rule with an arm party-pile on pretty jewels in similar colors, the limit is about 5 or 6 inches up your lower arm, and rock them!
The reason I love arm parties is because they just make an outfit SO much more interesting! If you have a cool piece from a different country, think about what a great conversation started it could be! One last thought on arm parties-if just a bunch of bracelets aren’t enough for you(because sometimes they aren’t enough for me!) add some cool rings! Either 1 or 2 bigger statement rings on the opposite hand of your arm party or a bunch of little dainty rings! You basically can’t go wrong!!

That’s it for today’s post! I hope you’ve been inspired and rock some awesome arm parties!!

Holi and the Mane event.

Happy Hump day everyone!

AND Happy Holi!

(for those of you who don’t know-Holi is a festival celebrated by Hindus every year. It’s the celebration of Spring, among many other meanings! Basically it’s a festival with tons and tons of powdered color, HOW fun!)

Here’s what it looks like-and I WILL be going sometime.

images-17 cnpfe_s holismalllauren-conrad-pink-hair

How cool is it that Lauren Conrad celebrates Holi-and also Free People of course!

Back to business.

Yes, I’ve posted about hair already this week but guess what-I love hair and I’m 99% you do too! So let’s just learn some more about what we can do with it, what do you say?

As you all know, I might have a deep love for Free People.
Ok, let’s be honest-the obsession is real.

The other night, I found myself laying in bed trying to go to sleep, but instead looking around on FPs Pinterest boards. Oh lordy, are they a sight for soar eyes.

Of course I love all the hair they show, but I just love looking at their pretty pictures!
I also love how they find inspiration from literally everything…. but really.

I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite images they had to offer, along with 2 of my favorite hair tutorials, and of course how my hair turned out after attempting to follow.

Glitter and hippies and kitties-Oh MY!

I just love the randomness and the state of mind FP always has, it’s so fun! (fun fact-FP, Urban Outfitters and Anthropology are all sister companies-maybe that’s why I love them all!)

Definitely take a look around their Pinterest board, but also take a look at their hair tutorials-

Bohemian Holiday braid
Model Waves

and of course my try at Model Waves

and since I’m talking about my favorite store, I OF COURSE had to show off my new FP items!
( feeling like a hipsters with these new goods)

Check out these rad little numbers^^^(so in love!)
I can’t wait to wear them together when it warms up with some platforms, and LOTS of turquoise jewelry, YUMMY.

If you STIL can’t get enough, check out FP’s blog-BLDG 25
(here’s another incentive to look at their blog-there’s a DIY for painted feathers-RAD)

OK, I’m positive that that’s all I’ve got for today- until tomorrow!
